The Royal British Legion is aiming to raise £42m this year to help servicemen, women and families, beating a £40m record in 2011.

Their annual poppy appeal was launched on 24th October with a concert in Trafalgar Square, London.

Singers Alesha Dixon and Pixie Lott, adopted as the faces of the 2012 appeal, were cheered by crowds as they headlined the free gig, which also included performances by The Corps of Drums of the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards, the 1st Battalion Irish Guards and the trumpeters from the Band of the Grenadier Guards.

The concert featured the Wattisham Military Wives Choir and James Fox, star of the West End musical Let It Be, who sang the official Poppy Appeal 2012 single Landlocked.
